The Kansas City Council has voted to raise the city's minimum wage to $13 an hour by 2020 in a 12-1 decision on Thursday. The increases will be implemented gradually, with the first bump expected on Aug. 24, which will raise pay from $7.65 to $8.50 per hour. While the Kansas City Council believes the move is the right thing to do, it has faced opposition from businesses, who have threatened to go to court to fight the wage raise, and petitioners, who have suggested they may still seek a ballot measure to push for $15 per hour by 2020.
